RE
Religious Education (RE) is an integral part of our school curriculum. Taught as a discrete subject, RE is supported by key calendar events and enhanced by visitors and trips to places of worship.
At Heathfield, we follow the ‘Darlington Agreed RE Syllabus’ (2022-2027) which forms part of a broad and balanced curriculum, promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, social, mental and physical development of our pupils. The Agreed Syllabus involves the teaching and practices of the major religious and non-religious worldviews across each key stage.
The principal aims are:
1. Pupils can make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs
2. Pupils understand the impact and significance of religious and non-religious beliefs
3. Pupils can make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts and ideas studied.
By exploring religious and non-religious views locally, nationally and globally we not only support the celebration of diversity but provide our pupils with the knowledge and skills to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living. Therefore preparing our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
