Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

This year your children will be taught by:

Mr McGolpin – 6RM class teacher and Lower Key Stage 2 Leader

Mr Carass – 6RC class teacher and Mathematics Lead

Throughout the year, we endeavour to offer a creative curriculum which engages and enthuses the children.  We seek opportunities to develop Maths and English skills through our research areas and offer challenging and stimulating science activities.  Our aim is to ensure that every child unlocks their full potential and has an opportunity to shine.

Year 6 kick off Robin Hood Week with trip to South Park!

To give Robin Hood Week a kick start, all year 6 children went to South Park on Monday morning. After a long walk, on a summer but chilly morning, the children had the chance to take part in three activities. The first was linked to the book Outlaw by Michael Morpurgo, where the children created a sound scape to help them imagine what it would be like to have been in Sherwood Forest at the time when it was ruled by the outlaws. The second, was linked to the science work that we have currently been working on. The children had to gather items from around the park and identify them. The third was linked to positional mathematical language. The children had to imagine that they were Robin Hood's father, from the book, at the point that Martin was kidnapped. He is blind, so the children had to take it in turns to be blindfolded and use mathematical vocabulary to guide their friend in and out of the trees.

The children had a great morning and are looking forward to rest of Robin Hood Week.
