Tesco Vouchers

We are once again collecting vouchers from TESCO. Last year we managed to save up for lots of playtime things like balls, skipping ropes and lots of other exciting things. The have now arrived and we are looking forward to being able to use them outside at playtimes and lunchtimes once the weather gets better. Vouchers can be left in the box which is located in the main reception. Thank you.

What a show!

Allotment

Cabbages…..potatoes…..radishes…..lettuce…these
are just a few of the delicious
vegetables we have grown in our allotment since it was created in 2009.

Back then, the land was open grass space, hardly used.
The wheels were put in motion to create a garden which could be used by the
children to experience the many benefits of growing fruit and vegetables!

The school received funding from Lingfield Point and
ROC along with a lot of physical help from various people
within our community.

The children were involved in every step of the process.

Each year group is allocated its own area and given
different vegetables to grow. We have
had some great successes and have been able to provide our school canteen with
a lot of vegetables to serve at lunchtimes! (The tremendous amount of radishes
one particular year did not go down too well though!!!)

We have tried to keep the running cost as low as possible
and have used recycled items where possible. Our plastic bottle green house
being one such project we undertook with help from RMB Toyota and Student
Loans.

Thanks to all the shopping we all do, we have also
collected 17000 Morrisons vouchers over the last year, which has enabled us to
purchase various different gardening items.

We have several compost bins and a water butt too.

A big thank you to all our wonderful helpers who have
spared a little or a lot of time, to manage and keep on top of the allotment
jobs! Your time and effort is greatly appreciated. …..if anyone is interested
in supporting us within the allotment, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Gardening and growing things is both educational and
healthy for children…………lets help them grow too.

The Heathfield Tigers

The school has acquired a number of fluffy tigers which love to go on holiday.
The children enjoy taking these tigers on holiday with them and experiencing the sights and sounds of the exciting places they have visited.
When the holiday is over the children fill in a short form explaining where they have been and what they have done. This is then typed up and put on the display board with a photo, if there is one, for everyone to see.

Peace Garden

This area in school has been recently redeveloped. Groundwork, two Motivate groups and six volunteers have helped clear up and redevelop this garden.

The aim of this area with create a space which be used for quiet reflection, reading, as well enhancing and supporting teaching. There will be a sensory corner and variety of plants from all over the world.

The Gardening Club will be responsible for the planting and maintaining the garden.

The Woodland

We have created a wildlife garden within our school grounds. So far we have put up a fence, planted more trees, let the grass grow and added bird feeders.

We are aiming to develop this area further to create a wide range of habits toencourage as much wildlife as possible.

So far Year 3 has discovered lots of frogs.

Our aim is to create an outdoor learning space which will provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to learn and discover through first hand experience about nature, as well as developing a range of skills: team building, communication, thinking skills and independence.

This area will be used to enhance the delivery of the curriculum.
